How is a deferred payment surcharge calculated?

A deferred payment surcharge is the amount added when the price of a good or service that could be sold for cash is paid at a later date. Businesses usually set a monthly rate. There are two common methods:

Simple: Deferred payment surcharge = Cash price × Monthly rate × Months
Compound: Deferred payment surcharge = Cash price × ((1 + Monthly rate)Months − 1)

Example: a ₺10,000 sale at a monthly rate of 3% over 6 months produces a ₺1,800 deferred payment surcharge with the simple method; the deferred total is ₺11,800. The same figures give a ₺1,940.52 surcharge with the compound method.

The deferred payment surcharge and VAT: Article 24/c of the VAT Law includes income such as deferred payment surcharges, price differences and interest in the VAT base. A deferred payment surcharge shown separately on the invoice is subject to the VAT rate of the good or service sold.

How is an equal installment (annuity) plan calculated?

In an equal installment plan, the same amount is paid each month; in the early months most of the installment is interest, and in the later months most of it is principal.

Installment = Principal × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)−n)
r: monthly rate, n: number of installments. Each month: Interest = Remaining × r, Principal = Installment − Interest.

The calculator rounds each installment to the nearest kuruş (the Turkish lira’s cent) and covers the few kuruş left over by rounding in the final installment, so the principal column adds up to exactly the amount you entered. You can download the plan as a CSV file and open it in Excel, or print it and give it to your customer.

Late payment interest: statutory interest and commercial default interest

A debtor who defaults on a monetary debt pays late payment interest under Law No. 3095 on Legal Interest and Default Interest. If the contract sets no rate, the statutory rate applies:

For dates the table does not cover (before 2023 for commercial interest, before 2006 for legal interest), the calculator leaves the rate blank; you need to enter the rate for that period. Days after 31.12.2026 are filled with the last known rate and marked "not yet announced".

Late payment interest formula

Interest = Receivable × Annual Rate ÷ 100 × Days ÷ 365

Example: ₺100,000 receivable, due 03/31/2026, paid 06/30/2026 (91 days), commercial default interest 39.75%: 100,000 × 0.3975 × 91 ÷ 365 = ₺9,910.27. If the period crosses a rate change (e.g., legal interest rose from 24% to 31% on 07/31/2026), the calculator splits the period and calculates each one at its own rate.

Keeping receivables on track

Calculating late payment interest is usually a last resort; the real gain is reminding customers of payments on time. In the Payments screen of ÖzgürKod CRM you see the remaining balance per deal, 0–30 / 31–60 / 61–90 / 90+ day aging, and the installment and payment promise calendar. For an overdue receivable, the customer's WhatsApp chat opens with a ready reminder draft; you review the message and send it yourself. When you enter a payment collection, you can get a receipt and export the list as CSV. The interest calculation in this tool is not done automatically in the CRM.

Frequently asked questions

With the simple method, the deferred payment surcharge = cash price × monthly rate × number of months. For example, ₺10,000 at 3% per month for 6 months comes to ₺1,800. With the compound method, each month's surcharge is added to the principal: 10,000 × (1.03⁶ − 1) = ₺1,940.52.

Under Article 2/2 of Law No. 3095, commercial transactions may be charged default interest at the CBRT's short-term advance rate even without a contract. The rate is the advance rate on December 31 of the previous year; if the June 30 rate differs by 5 points or more, that rate applies in the second half of the year. 01.01.2026 as of, the rate is annually %39,75(last checked 20.10.2026).

Under Article 1 of Law No. 3095 as amended by Law No. 7589, from 07/31/2026 legal interest is 80% of the CBRT's rediscount rate on December 31 of the previous year. Since the rediscount rate on 12/31/2025 was 38.75%, the rate is annually %31. Between 06/01/2024 and 07/30/2026 it was 24%; before that, 9%.

Receivable × annual rate × days ÷ 365. Days are counted from the day after the due date through and including the payment day. If the rate changed during the period, each period is calculated at its own rate and the results are added; no compound interest applies to legal or default interest (Law No. 3095, Art. 3).

Yes. Article 24/c of the VAT (KDV) Law includes the deferred payment surcharge in the VAT base; a surcharge shown separately on the invoice is taxed at the VAT rate applicable to the sale. Consult your accountant for details in practice.

Because installment and interest amounts are rounded to the cent, the few cents left over so the principal is fully paid off are added to or subtracted from the last installment. This way the total of the principal paid equals the debt exactly.

No. All calculations run in your browser; amounts, dates and rates are not sent to a server or stored.
